Buick LaCrosse - What the Auto Press Says

The 2011 Buick LaCrosse Ranks 2 out of 7 Affordable Large Cars. This ranking is based on our analysis of 20 published reviews and test drives of the Buick LaCrosse, and our analysis of reliability and safety data.

The 2011 Buick LaCrosse is shot across the bow from GM to longtime luxury leaders like Lexus.

Instead of the disconnected, floaty performance and disappointing cabin Buicks used to be know for, the 2011 Buick LaCrosse stands out among affordable mid-size cars for its sharp styling, confident performance and a cabin that's one of the most luxurious available at this price point.

According to some reviewers, the LaCrosse is good enough to compete against cars costing several thousand dollars more. The Los Angeles Times says the La Crosse "was built to put the cross-hairs on a  single bogie, the Lexus ES350, and I'll tell you right now, it blows the Lexus out of the sky. Pow. Parachute. Smoking crater." All that and the LaCrosse's starting price undercuts the ES by a few thousand dollars. If your looking for a luxury-minded cruiser for comfortable road trips and quiet commutes, the LaCrosse may be just what your looking for.

Buick LaCrosse: The Details

The LaCrosse is available in base CX, more upscale CXL, and top-of-the-line CXS trims. New for 2011 is a standard four-cylinder engine in the CX and CXL front-wheel drive trims.

  • "No fair appraisal of this car can conclude anything but that the Buick is as good as or better than the Lexus [ES 350] in every way."--Los Angeles Times
  • "...the best car no one will buy. It's a shame really..People should line up at Buick dealerships in droves to order the new makeover General Motors CO. has ever completed."--Detroit News
  • "It generally seems like more than it is. More space, better gear, fewer annoyances, more quiet, less total road isolation-and more value."--Motor Trend
  • "There is a lot that is right with the [Buick] LaCrosse, and it's a testament to what kind of car GM can build when it puts its collective worldwide resources into building it."--AutoWeek

LaCrosse Performance -8.4 (Very Good)

The 2011 Buick LaCrosse offers sharp handling for a family sedan. A new four cylinder engine is standard on CX and CXL trims for 2011, and reciewers like the combination of the esequate power and improved fuel economy it offers. Regardless of engine, however, reviewers are pleased overall with the LaCrosse's performance.

LaCrosse Exterior -9.3 (Excellent)

Subtle design touches give the 2011 Buick LaCrosse an elegance that belies its price. "the design is penned in sweeping confident strokes," says the Detroit News. "There's a balance to its profile that denotes luxury without being ostentatious."

LaCrosse Interior -9.1 (Excellent)

Many car reviewers are blown away by the interior of the 2011 Buick LaCrosse. "the interior is excellent. I parked the LaCrosse next to a new Lexus to compare and it wasn't even close," writes the Los Angeles Times. Soft leathers normally reserved for the Cadillac brand, thoughtful ergonomics and a stylish design capped off by ice blue lighting set the car apart - its cabin seems to belong to a car in a more exclusive class.

LaCrosse Safety -10.0 (Excellent)

The 2011 LaCrosse hasn't been crash-tested yet by the federal government, but the very-similar 2010 model has strong safety scores. The 2011 LaCrosse earned the coveted "Top Safety Pick" designation from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, despite new, tougher standards for the prize.

LaCrosse Reliability -8.0 (Very Good)

The 2011 Buick LaCrosse reliability score shown is the Predicted Reliability rating provided by J.D. Power and Associates. This score is based on trending the past three years of historical initial quality and dependability data from J.D. Power's automotive studies, specifically the Vehicle Dependability Study (VDS) and the Initial Quality Study (IQS). Buick covers the 2011 LaCrosse with a four year/50,000-mile bumper to bumper warranty - one year longer than what many competitors offer!

Just a few seasons ago, "Eastbound and Down" star Kenny Powers, aka Danny McBride, uttered the phrase "Denali's on the Reg" and began a new love and appreciation for the award winning SUV.

Powers was talking about the GMC Yukon Denali - which was, according to the character, the only vehicle a man of baseball fame such as himself should drive. And when Powers was signed back up to the majors, the first thing he…
